I participated in the Walk For Lupus today. I had the honour of meeting the president of the Lupus Society of Newfoundland & Labrador, Deane Layman, who was very kind and happy to have me at her event. I went on the entire walk, then went back to the Reid Centre to draw for prizes.
Here is a photo of me and Mrs Layman. She is such a sweet lady and did an amazing job organizing the event.
For those of you who don’t know, lupus is an autoimmune disease where the immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue. The cause of the disease is currently unknown, but it is believed that it’s genetic. I was very happy to be able to support this cause and meet people that have been personally affected.
While at the appearance, I was asked to join the motorcycle ride for Lupus in September which I’m really happy to have the opportunity to do. I’ll get to see all these lovely people again! If you get the chance, you should certainly volunteer for this cause. It’s not as well known as other causes, but just as important.
